Parent Groups

African American Parents Group (AAPG).  The mission of Rooftop’s African American Parent Group is to provide a forum to hear the ideas of the African American parent community, and respond to those ideas by consulting with the district African American Parent Advisory Council (AAPAC) to obtain resources, policies, and programs. It is our goal to empower and unite the lives of all African American children and families (community), spirit and culture. Ultimately, to encourage parents to have a voice to support the academic instruction their children receive and engage with educators and administrators in the San Francisco Unified School District. Lets make our families a more cohesive, thriving and valuable part of the Rooftop community by continuing to support our children academically, culturally and social emotionally.

Asian Pacific Islander Group (APIFF). APIFF is Rooftop’s Asian Pacific Islander Family & Friends Community Group. We are a newly formed group who want to uplift the Asian and Pacific Islander
community in solidarity, with celebration of culture, and by offering support and informational resources.

Latinx Parent Group (LPG). The mission of the LPG is to create community and provide a space to listen to ideas and advocate for our children, so they can thrive academically, culturally, socially and emotionally within the Rooftop Community.

Rainbow Ravens Group (RRG). The Rainbow Ravens is an affinity group that facilitates the coming together of LGBTQ+ members of the Rooftop community. The group has hosted past events that focus on supporting Rooftop students’ Gender & Sexuality Alliance, helping to create gender expansive classrooms, building supports for LGBTQ+ students, and hosting Rooftop’s first Pride event.

Rooftop Inclusion Group (RIG). The mission of the Rooftop Inclusion Group is to strengthen our school’s commitment to ensuring all students, regardless of differences in learning styles or social skills, believe they are a valued part of our community. The group usually meets the second Thursday of the month, alternating between morning and after-school times, to provide a consistent opportunity for families, teachers, and administrators to come together to share perspectives on how to better support inclusive educational practices in our classrooms, and seek out resources to accomplish our mission. We know not everyone can attend meetings at school, and we do our best to keep interested families informed about our work through on-line communications. The members of the group also intend to act as resources for any families who have questions about services available through the SFUSD Special Education Department and other agencies, or who would like to find other families that share their experiences. Please contact inclusion@rooftopk8.org for more information.
