The Service Learning Club kicked off their first campaign to gather soccer equipment in a drive to benefit orphans who are the victims of the brutal civil war in the Sudan. The donations will be delivered to the Angels of East Africa Children’s Village the first week of October. Angels of East Africa currently has 200 orphans at their compound, and has rescued more than 800 children in the past decade. Thank you to Kiran Mukherjee and his family to actively seek community input for this worthy cause! Rooftop came through with 34 cleats, 19 balls, 78 jerseys, and 36 shorts in our one week window! Thank you everyone for your generosity! Attached is a picture.

After rousing speeches, our student body at Mayeda voted for their student leaders. It was a very close race and everyone who ran showed great leadership, sportsmanship, and Rooftop spirit. The votes determined these results: Lucy Montgomery- President, Ciro Leong-8th Grade Vice President, Ali Shaikh- 7th Grade Vice President, Liam Craddock-Secretary, Mathew Lee-Treasurer, and Rose Wade-Publicity Chair. Thank you all students who ran for office!

There will be an Assembly at the Mayeda campus on friday Oct 4th at 12:12, that highlights the 2 week residency of Abada Capoiera with our 6th,7th, and 8th grades. This will be a performance of learning, and demonstrates what students have experienced with Capoiera dance-martial arts lessons. Abada Capoiera is an Afro-Brazilian martial art self-defense form that incorporates acrobatics, dance, percussion, and songs in a rhythmic dialogue of body, mind, and spirit. Parents of the 6th, 7th and 8th graders are all welcomed. Attached is a picture.
