Don’t Slide this Summer, STRIDE instead with Summer Reading!
“Summer slide” is the tendency for students to lose some of the achievement gains they made during the previous school year.
We are asking Rooftop Families to take 20 minutes out this week May 8th-15th, to look over your book collection and consider donating well-loved but no longer read books to our new free library.
Bring your books to school from May 15th-19th and place them in the shelves of our free library bookshelf by the staircase between Room 3 and 5.
On May 22nd, 23rd, and 24th, these books as well as bookmarks, book covers, and Rooftop Reader buttons will be available at recess to kick off our summer reading program. The books are yours to keep or pass on when you are done.
Tamra Marshall, our fabulous librarian, will have your new San Francisco Public Library cards, the Scholar Card, along with grade appropriate reading lists, and information about the Summer Stride Program.
Your child’s homeroom teacher will also be sending home a reading log to keep track of all of the wonderful books your child will be reading this summer.
Happy Reading!
