On March 2, 2012, Rooftop Elementary School participated in Read Across America Day, an annual reading motivation and awareness program held on Dr. Seuss’s birthday and organized by the National Education Association.

During the day, students and teachers celebrated reading in a variety of ways including reading marathons and sharing favorite books. For the 14th year in a row, San Francisco-based members of BookPals (Performing Artists for Literacy in Schools) performed Dr. Seuss’s Green Eggs and Ham during a school-wide assembly, and also read books in classrooms. Carla Hatley, BookPals’ San Francisco director, presented the Rooftop Library with three new books including a version of Green Eggs and Ham in Spanish. The day was a huge success! The following photos show how much children at Rooftop love reading!
