Rooftop Family:

It was great to see so many families at the Burnett campus Back to School Night! We look forward to seeing you at our Mayeda campus Back to School Night on September 3! Don’t forget to pick up your new Rooftop trucker hat when you visit…they’re just $15!

We’re moving full STEAM ahead with lots of fun and exciting activities for students! Tinkering continues in the elementary grades, with the introduction of “Little Bits” to learn about circuitry and how to make electronic projects. At the Mayeda campus, we’ve got mobile makerspaces on wheels filled with tons of tools, including sewing machines, two 3D printers, and Mr. Brody’s Science classroom is getting a makeover with new desks and stools!

We’d like to send out a special “Thank you!” to the group of parents who have been helping to put the final touches on our makerspace on the roof at Mayeda! We are in need of some handy parents to help us finish up the project. If this is something that you can commit to helping with, please email Jeff at slaterj@sfusd.edu. We’re also very excited to be bringing a makerspace to the Burnett campus as well! Keep your eye on the space next to the CASA bungalow!

Speaking of makerspaces, we are super excited to announce our first-ever STEAM event, scheduled to take place Saturday, February 13 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Mayeda campus! We’ll have several of our tech partners represented and lots of hands-on activities for families! If you (or your company) are interested in participating in this Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics event, please email Jeff at slaterj@sfusd.edu.

As we continue our social, emotional, and behavioral supports for students, we are happy to welcome our guidance counselor interns, Helen Liang and Stephanie Cano, to the Mayeda campus, and social work interns, Christian Hendrend and Emily Hong Daniel, to the Burnett campus!

Finally, a request…We are noticing that many students are arriving on the campus prior to having supervision on the yard. Having unsupervised students on the yard creates a safety issue. Please help us out by not dropping off your children before7:30.

Thank you for your support and participation in this exciting school year!

With much gratitude,
Jeff & Tiffany

Christian Hendrend

Jeff & Tiffany
