In February, the state will be releasing data from “The School Quality Improvement Index” (SQII). The index is the first major change in our federal accountability system in over 15 years. This index includes measures that SFUSD has been including in our own school data analysis. We all know that social-emotional learning (SEL) and culture-climate measures matter, too, and these will now be included.
There is a whole generation of students, teachers, families and school leaders who have only known previous state and federal measures like CST, API, and AYI. Learning how all this works together will take time and we will learn together.
“The School Quality Improvement Index” is the first of its kind – all other state accountability systems focus only on academic measures. Multiple measures are used in the index and help to make all students visible. We look forward to reviewing Rooftop’s data and using it to help inform our progress.
In partnership with our PTA and funding from Salesforce.com, we are thrilled to be able to offer Lego Robotics/Lego Mindstorms EV3 to our 5th grade students!
Lego Mindstorms EV3 is a programming and building combination that allows students to build, program, and command Lego robots and other models to be smarter, faster, and fun to engage with.
The curriculum is designed over an 8-week session for students to learn a new program and command each week, which will build onto what they learn from the previous week. The weekly themes include: Claw Bot, Soccer Color Command, Draw Bot, Gymnast, Tankbot, Bumper Rover, and Tribot Scanner.
We are excited to bring this learning opportunity to our Rooftop students!
With much gratitude,
Jeff & Tiffany
