Rooftop Family:

Thank you so much for supporting a wonderful kick-off to the school year.  It’s been great getting to know our Rooftop families.  The Kindergarten play-date last Saturday was a great success and I enjoyed making connections with so many of the friendly students and families I encountered there.  I wish to thank all of our wonderful Rooftop community for their warm wishes and welcome to the school.  I also appreciate the great assistance, dedication and behind the scenes efforts of our :  Art Committee, PTA Executive Board, Wellness Committee, Welcome/Hospitality Committee, and the many individual helpers and volunteers who helped us organize and arrange the myriad details of beginning the school year with readiness and aplomb.  Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you!

As you know, traffic congestion is a bit of challenge in our neighborhood. During drop-off and pick-up, please be sensitive to our neighbors and observe all posted parking signs and avoid parking in their driveways. We want to be a good neighbor in our community and we would greatly appreciate your help in that effort.  Safety is always my utmost priority and concern, so please take care and be aware as we approach the school so as not to cause an accident.

Communication is an important priority for us, and we have a wide range of options available for you to stay connected with the school. You can find a wealth of information on our school web site, located at: The school also has a Facebook page, and I have a principal account that you can “friend” as well (just search for “Michael Reichle” and look for the Rooftop logo).  Our weekly bulletin will come out each Wednesday and is also available via hard copy by request.

Speaking of communication, you will be receiving some paperwork from the school this week– including documents from your child’s teacher as well as important district-related documents for you to sign and return. Please be sure to ask your child for these documents and check their backpacks daily.

As we work to build relationships, we hope that you will be available to join us at our Mayeda Campus (5-8) Back to School Night this Thursday, August 18th, from 6:15 to 7:30pm.  Back to School Night for our Burnett Campus (PK-4) is the following Thursday, August 25th, from 6:15 to 7:30 pm.   Our annual Back to School Picnic is on Sunday, August 28th at Garfield Square Park from 1:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m.   The picnic is sponsored and hosted by our own AAPAC (African-American Parent Advisory Committee).  This is a great opportunity to catch up with friends after the summer break and meet new Rooftop families.  So, pack a picnic, blanket and plan to have fun.  Sporting equipment and game organizing is encouraged!

Once again, it is my pleasure to commence another successful year at Rooftop.  Thanks for imbuing it with the pervasive Rooftop Spirit!
