Greetings, Rooftop!

The Rooftop table was once again one of the busiest at the SFUSD Enrollment Fair last Saturday.  There were lots of parents who came to check us out, many of whom shared wonderful things about our school they heard from many of our parents and community members.  It felt great hearing compliments coming from you and our prospective parents.  Special thanks go to Davy Breice, Lucy Montgomery and Imogen Budentti who joined Ms. Obayashi and me at the fair.  Their perspectives as our students were most powerful to those parents who had the fortunate opportunity to hear what they had to say.

Now that the Enrollment Fair is over, we are gearing up for our scheduled string of school tours.  Our first one is this Thursday, November 7th.  Make sure you let your friends who are interested in having their children attend Rooftop register for our upcoming tours.

A big thank you to all of the parents and children who came to Rooftop this past Sunday to help beautify our yard. You may have noticed all the work that was done. Parent volunteers painted benches, assembled new picnic tables, filled troughs with plants, painted the northern wall of the main building, and cleaned up many areas around the school. A special thank you goes out to Maryann Ibrahim, James Donaher, and Ellen Manerud for organizing this very productive day!

Some of you  may have seen Lissa Gould (a long-time Rooftop kindergarten teacher who recently retired) at school these past few days.  I am happy to let all of you know that she has graciously agreed to be with us and provide support to our new kindergarten team.  What a blessing to have her back!

I would like to thank all of you who came to our annual Halloween Parade.  It was another well-attended, successful and fun event.  A special shout out goes to Joyce Woo, fourth grade teacher, for organizing and coordinating the event.

Parent-Teacher Conference week is from November 18th to the 22nd.  Teachers have sent out conference appointment notification letters. If you need assistance in scheduling / rescheduling your appointments with our teachers, please do not hesitate to give us a call at 695-5691 (Burnett) or 522-6757 (Mayeda).

The opening of the Rooftop Art Show at the Luggage Store Annex and Tenderloin National Forest is from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 9th.  I would love to see you and your family (and friends) at this  very special community event.   Live entertainment will begin at 2 pm with student performances, and the Marcus Shelby Orchestra will perform Flo and Marcus’ collaborative work, “Gwah Gai: Crossing the Street” at 3pm.   Please join us for this incredible opportunity to connect with the city and build a broader sense of community through the arts.

With you in building, strengthening, and sustaining a strong community of successful learners,

Jeffrey Burgos
