That first week of school went by pretty fast. Thank you very much for everybody’s cooperation in ensuring that we had a smooth start. The traffic on the first day of school was unbelievably light. If we can do it on the first day, we should be able to do it everyday. Dropping your kids off early does help a lot. The less students being dropped off minutes before the bell, the better the traffic flow is for everybody.
Parent participation in events is always remarkable at Rooftop. Thank to all of you who came to the Welcome Coffee, Mayeda Back-to-School Night, and the Back-to-School picnic. It was wonderful to chat with many of you these past few days. Please note that we are having the Burnett Back-to-School Night at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday, August 29th and the Kindergarten Meet and Greet at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, August 30th at the Burnett Library.
It is imperative that the Rooftop Community respect the neighbors surrounding our school. Safety is our utmost concern. During this past week, we have observed some unsafe behaviors by adults. We respectfully ask parents to please not block any driveways during pick up or drop off. Please drive carefully, stop at the cross walks, pull over to the curb if you are picking up or dropping off your child, and respect the speed limits. Please allow ample time in the morning and afternoon so that you do not feel rushed during pick up and drop off.
Important Announcement for Seventh Grade Parents: The deadline for submission of proof of Tdap vaccination has been extended to September 9th. Note that students who have not turned in documentation by September 9th will not be allowed to come to school until fulfillment of the said requirement.
Room 1 has now moved to Room B18. I am extremely grateful for all of you who came to help us get the work done in no time at all. Indeed, it was testimony of how wonderful our community is. Thanks to all the parents, teachers, staff, and Club 6 students who graciously gave us their time and energy in getting Room B18 ready for our students. Special shout out goes to Mr. John Prizmich and Ms. Nicole Wickstrom whose classrooms had to be taken down and set-up at their new locations for their patience, understanding and hard work. Superb job, Team Rooftop!
BRTI Update: As in the past years, we are committed to deliver Second Step, our Social Emotional Learning Curriculum, school-wide. I encourage you to speak with your child(ren) about what their significant learnings have been in their Second Step lessons. Having follow-up conversations is always an effective way to reinforce skills we want them to have.
We welcome our parents to visit our classrooms. If you so decide to visit your child’s classroom, please be advised that a 24-hr. advance notice is expected. While our teachers are always happy to welcome parents, it is important for us to provide the courtesy of letting them know of visitors coming to their classrooms. We appreciate your understanding on this matter.
Please plan on coming to our First Friday Coffee at 8:00 a.m. next week, September 6th at the Burnett Yard. For parents new to our school, our monthly Coffee is always a great opportunity to network with other parents at our school. I hope to see you then.
With you in building, strengthening, and sustaining a strong community of successful learners,
