Inspired by Norm Caba’s Emergency Preparedness presentation at our last PTA meeting, we want to organize an 18-hour NERT training for the Rooftop community at our school. During the training (6 sessions of 3 hours each), you learn how to be self sufficient in a major disaster situation through hands-on disaster skills. After your training you can be a member of an emergency response team.
Classes include earthquake awareness, basic disaster skills (types of fire, how to put out, etc), disaster medicine, light search and rescue, team organization and management and skills development and application. The classes are free of charge and a fantastic opportunity to learn these important skills in a familiar setting with other Rooftop parents. In fact, we may organize a graduation party after the last class!
We will need a minimum of 30 participants. If you are interested in participating, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We will finalize the details (dates, times) once we have a group, but most likely the meetings will be on Tuesdays.
