Free childcare & food! Come join the last PTA meeting as we festively celebrate the end of the year with Mexican food and (virgin) Margarita’s.

We will discuss the survey results and reflect on the ’11-’12 school year and we’ll meet our new PTA President, Joel Alegria, who will lay out some plans for the next school year. In addition you will be able to vote on next year’s school budget. The SSC will present the Balance Score Card. Tamra Marshall, Burnett librarian, will present a summer reading list to keep your kids’ brains engaged throughout summer and we’ll discuss in brief some of the ideas for the art curriculum next year. So don’t miss it!

Art Parents and other Rooftop Volunteers are invited to join us in the Rooftop Garden as we celebrate another fantastic year of caring and community. Our volunteers are at the very heart of Rooftop Spirit and this little gathering is a way of expressing our gratitude for the many ways you help to make our school a wonderful place. Children of attendees are welcome to join in the festivities. (Please note the date change for this event. In the past, we’ve hosted this event on the last day of school, but this year, we’re trying something new and hosting it on 5/24). We hope to see you there!

Hello Rooftop Community!

This is the time of year that we show our appreciation to all the teachers and staff for all that they do for our children. Won’t you please help us by making a donation or providing a dish for the event?

The event is Friday May 17th and we need your help.

Cooks & Bakers: Kindly let us know if you’re willing to contribute and what type of dish by Monday, May 13th so that we can plan the menu accordingly.

Room temperature finger foods and easily shareable dishes are encouraged. Ideas include quiche, composed salads, kebabs, tea sandwiches, sushi, poached fish, sliced cured meats, cheese plates, noodle dishes, crudite and desserts work best. Sparkling water & tea also welcomed.

Too busy too cook? No problem, no guilt – cash donations are happily welcome and will go towards food preparation for the luncheon.

Let the organizers know how you’d like to participate by emailing them via RooftopParent@gmail.com. You may send a cash donation in an envelope to your class teacher addressed to LUNCHEON.

Would you like to volunteer on May 17th? Send us a note via RooftopParent@gmail.com. We have several shifts on that day and would very much enjoy the help.

An outdoor concert with music by Rooftop kids, families and alumni

We are pleased to open this event up to a wide sliding scale pricing of $5-25 for each adult (continuing with ALL kids FREE) to encourage more of our school and friend community to plan on coming. Come for a bit or come for the whole time! Bring a picnic to enjoy and your dancing shoes. Sign up near the office or contact manerud@gmail.com; you will be able to pay at the event.

Tickets are sliding scale pricing ($5-25) for adults (proceeds benefit Rooftop programs); ALL KIDS ARE FREE!

14th Annual International Festival (Fri, 5/10)

The 14th annual International Multicultural Festival is coming Friday, May 10th and students are preparing their acts! Come see SOTA’S WORLD MUSIC with Taiko and Afro-Cuban drumming and Special Guest Khafre from Hip Hop 4 Change who will perform progressive rap! Marvel at the many wonderful performances by our students ranging from Hawaiian dance, Filipino folk dance, poetry, music, and songs from the heart! All student acts will be submitted by their teachers by May 1st.

We are calling all parents to share their favorite food from their own heritage. Join in the spirit of our International Festival, and cook up your favorite dish for our students. Please make finger foods, or bite size morsels. Please label the food, what country, and what is the main ingredients in your delicious dish. See the attached flyers for more details.

Give your taste buds a sweet, spicy & creamy overhaul at our 2nd annual Root Beer Taste Test Fest! Over 100 varieties of Root, Birch, Spruce Beers and a healthy smattering of Sarsaparillas await you! Stop by our ice cream station for a root beer float, or a custom-mixed brown cow!

We invite all Rooftop families to join the Rooftop PTA and become an active participant in our community. Membership is $5/adult, and you can sign up online at our website or drop off your check (made out to Rooftop PTA) off at the Burnett Campus office, attention: PTA Membership.

Sign up and then come to our Wednesday, April 24th meeting to vote for our 2013-14 PTA Board members and on May 22nd to approve the PTA budget, which funds the programs that your children enjoy and make Rooftop special. PTA membership has its privileges, too – see the website for a complete listing.

Please mark your calendars: this years annual Rooftop Sports Awards Banquet will be Thursday, May 16 from 6:00-7:30 in the Mayeda Gym.

All 6th, 7th, and 8th grade student-athletes are invited to attend with their parents or guardians. Every athlete will receive an award for participation plus we will have some additional special awards. Please join our coaches to support Rooftop Athletics and have some fun! Please bring one potluck dinner item to share and GO RAVENS!

In a small Kansas town, a fifth grade class stages a protest against their school’s annual Thanksgiving pageant and the negative depiction of American Indians found in their antiquated textbooks. The protest quickly lands the students in detention. When a tornado strikes, the wacky young rebels are hurtled from captivity to a magical island alive with the spirit of revolutionaries!

Starring 180 CASA (Children’s After School Arts) students from kindergarten through fifth grade, this original musical comedy explores what it means to stand up for your beliefs with an open mind and full heart. Screening of BULLY, the movie (Thu, 4/18)

Rooftop’s School Climate Committee invites Rooftop parents and guardians to attend a showing of Lee Hirsch’s award-winning film Bully, on Thursday, April 18th in the Mayeda MPR. Doors will open at 5:30 and the film will begin at 6:00. Following the showing, there will be an opportunity for discussion and processing of the issues raised in the movie.

Please join us for a showing and after-discussion of the movie Bully on Thursday April 18 from 5:30-8:30 PM in the Mayeda MPR.

On Thursday, May 2nd at 12:30 pm we will host the American Heart Association’s heart healthy activity and fundraiser “Jump Rope For The Heart”. This is a voluntary activity to raise awareness, raise funds for AHA and have fun. Pledge forms are attached or available from the office. Please return forms to classroom teacher.
